Inovaware Prism Migration to ModernBill, another blog entry

Once I was able to successfully import into ModernBill, my task became to obtain the data from Inovaware’s Prism, which is a far more flexible product, and thus far more complicated. To get an actual billable rate from Prism, you need to pull the rate from the ispRateItem table, taking into account the service period, service type, promotion id, customer type and potentially market area from the ispService table, as well as the account discount rate from ispCustomer, and the service discount rate from ispService. And that’s just for the standard package rate. If you were like us and used contract rates, you need to pull that from the ispServiceContractParm table.

So far I haven’t come across anything unresolvable, but the obstacles I have encountered have extended the time I originally estimated for this project by a significant amount. It doesn’t help matters that we don’t have a service contract with Inovaware and aren’t willing to pay ModernGigabyte for professional services to do the migration for us. Their PS fees are a bit high anyway, as are Inovaware’s.

Lessons learned so far:

1) It’s going to take longer than you think, no matter which package you’re going to or from.

2) if you don’t have the manpower to do it yourself, consider hiring the vendor’s PS team, or someone who’s done it before. (hint hint).
